Councillors visit Kingston District & Showgrounds

Today five Hepburn Shire Councillors, three staff and Steve Wroe CEO of Daylesford Macedon Tourism did a Heritage Tour of Kingston and District, with Vicki Johnston and Julie Baulch as tour guides. They ended the tour at the showgrounds. The highlight of the tour was showcasing significant sites and indicating where the proposed transmission lines are proposed to go. Our district has so much to offer! The tour viewed and discussed:

• The site of the proposed Terminal Station

• Hepburn Lagoon

• The ruins of the Birch brothers' home

• Keerin’s Bridge Precinct

• The township of Kingston

• Shire of Creswick offices

• The Centenary Tree

• Hepburn home

• Heritage listed Avenue of Honour to Alcorn's Road, Hepburn home

• Northern shoulder of Spring Mount which affords a panoramic view of the path of proposed transmission lines and mullock heaps indicating the 'Buried Rivers of Gold’

• 1872 Deep Lead Monument at Broomfield

• 'Buried Rivers of Gold' self-drive tour – part of Lawrence/Dibdin Town to Smeaton

• Three Chain Road, the path of the proposed transmission lines

• Wheeler’s Bridge/Monash Bridge

• Anderson's Mill National Trust and Smeaton Bridge

• Kingston Show Grounds to view the heritage listed Grandstand and for hospitality.
